EXCLUSIVE: Rush Limbaugh Breaks Silence Over Palin Resignation

'IT'S ALL SPECULATION'

RUSH: Establishment 'Still Scared To Death Of (Palin)'

*** EXCLUSIVE TO THE RADIO EQUALIZER ***

How does Rush Limbaugh
see Sarah Palin's resignation announcement?

Though an assortment of pundits both left and right have been quick to offer their views on Palin's move to step down as governor of Alaska, the talk titan has been one of the most significant figures to remain absent from the debate.

With her press conference taking place after the end of his Friday program and El Rushbo's summer golfing holiday beginning immediately thereafter, there has been no opportunity to comment on a development that has shaken the political world.

Through persistence and a bit of luck, however, your Radio Equalizer was able to track down Limbaugh, who offered a three minute taped answer to our key question: does Sarah Palin have a political future?

In the response, Limbaugh denounced Beltway and state-run media speculation over Palin's next move, as well as dismissals of her future viability, comparing it to unfounded rumors regarding Michael Jackson's actual cause of death. He was careful to note that both establishment Democrats and Republicans were writing her political obituary, but that it was more than premature.

Here's the exclusive
Radio Equalizer clip featuring Rush's response:

Limbaugh's analysis bears some resemblance to fellow talker Mark Levin's, which we featured in our previous post. Also included there is an exclusive interview with Dr Laura Schlessinger on how family issues may have played a role in Palin's decision.

Meanwhile, Ann Coulter has also added her two cents to the debate with a commentary featured at WowOWow, a site for women:

It’s a weird Washington insider perspective to be perplexed by what she’s doing. Contrary to Mark Sanford’s e-mails to his mistress, no one was really impressed with him; 99.99999999999999999% of Americans didn’t know who he was.

Who is more influential: Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge and Bill O’Reilly, or Tim Pawlenty, Bobby Jindal and Mark Sanford (before the fall)? As Palin said, God bless people who run for political office, but – and she didn’t say this part – she’s too big to be a lame-duck governor stuck dealing with fishing licenses in Anchorage right now.

She’ll be much bigger now and can play on the national stage without constantly setting off state ethics investigations by loons, parasites and liberals. None of this applied to McCain or Kerry – both of whom went back to the Senate – because their national campaigns diminished them. Palin’s national campaign made her a major star. As she said, she’s not retreating, she’s advancing in another direction.

ALSO: No FBI investigation of Palin

  • and we care what rush thinks about it because?? you couldn't have waited until Monday Brian? when he was on the air? you needed his reaction right away? to each their own I guess

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 05 July, 2009 15:55

  • Rush is right. No one knows, but at least now Palin is free as Ann Coulter remarked, she free of loons, parasites and liberals.

    Right on!

By Anonymous Kini, at 05 July, 2009 16:33

  • She quit in the middle of her term, and that's supposed to be a good move?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 05 July, 2009 16:46

  • Great catch Brian.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 05 July, 2009 16:55

  • Hillary quit the senate to become secretary of state, and would have quit to become president, and so did $0bama. So, it's ok for Hillary and Barack, but not for Sarah? Double standards from the lefties once again. Rush is on vacation next week, so getting his opinion about her resignation now, only makes sense. He is the voice of reason, so it wouldn't hurt everyone to listen to him, and to take his advice. Go Rush! Go Sarah!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 05 July, 2009 17:08

  • Its only the right, People like Sarah that can't leave office mid term. Obama of course wasn't really "present" anyway, so his leaving the senate won't be noticed. (look at his voting record before you take issue with that)

Great catch Brian, if Rush had not wanted to chime in, I'm sure he would have refused.

What ever Sarah is up to, if its just to go back to being a mom and a business owner, best of luck to her.

By Blogger Terry Smelser, at 05 July, 2009 17:31

  • So because Hillary quit that means it's great for Sarah to do it too? I am a conservative who supported Palin during the campaign, but I'm very disappointed in her resigning.
I know anyone who says that gets called called every name in the book by Palin fans. I hate to say it but it's starting to seem like Sarah has a cult following similar to Obama's.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 05 July, 2009 18:18

  • My initial gut reaction, when I read that Sarah Palin announced that she would step down, was that the frothing, hate-filled POS Dim-ocrats secretly sent a couple of vile henchmen to Alaska and threatened the life of Sarah and her family. Because she flies in the face of the NWO; a woman who's a non-conformist and truly wants to make a difference, was probably told to either buck up (you're either with us or against us) or die...

There is nothing I would put past this one-party system thinly veiled as the American gov't. Nothing.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 05 July, 2009 18:51

  • Perhaps she needs time to hike the Appalachian trail, or see if she is needed down in Honduras . . . ?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 05 July, 2009 20:15

  • I am a fan or supporter of Palin and I share the sentiment of Rush. Rush is right. We have no clue as to why. I also am not saying this is what happened by speculation and I agree with the other post by anonymous is that Obama's administration sent some goons to Alaska and threatened her. It makes perfect sense when you look at how they are forcing CEO's out of companies.. and other CEO's to give back their bonuses which were written in a contract and how they are paying off Republicans to vote for Dem bills, such as the Cap and Trade. Palin may have had it with all the smears and pseudo-lawsuits that was drainning them financially. We really do not know why. We'll see.

By Anonymous Matthew, at 05 July, 2009 20:18

  • Equating Palin's resignation with Hillary and Obama is just bizarre, and is an excellent example of extreme grasping at straws to defend Palin.

Most objective people wouldn't say Hillary and Obama "resigned", most would say they were "promoted".

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 05 July, 2009 20:36

  • and we care what rush thinks about it because??

I'm guessing because he's one of the most recognizable Conservatives in the country. Just a guess though.

you couldn't have waited until Monday Brian? when he was on the air? you needed his reaction right away?

Newsflash, genius....Rush isn't on the air next week. Don't you libs ever get tired of believing you know more than everyone else?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 05 July, 2009 20:42

  • Remember, Obama promised voters in Illinois that he would not run for president while serving as Senator for us - and almost immediately started to campaign for the job as soon as he was elected. This is why we wound up with Blagojevich appointing Roland Burris. How is that one working out for you, fellow Illinois voters?

Limbaugh is smart to not join the chorus of pundits trying to judge her move, or predict her next one.

By Anonymous SurgeUSA, at 05 July, 2009 21:13

  • Vince Lombardi said, "Winners never quit and quitters never win." I would also add that thin-skinned politicians who can't deal with with media criticism should get out of the business. Looks like that is what she did.

By Anonymous John, at 05 July, 2009 21:44

  • To the conservative who is disappointed in Palin, should Palin have allowed her family to be bankrupted (they're $500,000 in legal debt because she must defend herself frivolous lawsuits and ethics complaints coming from Democrats.)? Should she have remained in office and be a drain on the state of Alaska (so far the state has spent $2,000,000 defending against frivolous lawsuits and ethics complaints coming from Democrats. Should she just sit in Alaska and remain a punching bag for Democrats (rape jokes against her children; gross depictions of her Downs Syndrome baby) or should she resign the office and free herself to deal with critics (as deal she will most severely)?

I'm proud of Palin. She put family and state first; she's gonna go after her enemies. She's not willing to indulge in the politics as usual.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 05 July, 2009 21:59

  • Nobody knows what's up yet, but, remember - THEY ATTACKED HER CHILDREN. You think she's just going to slink away? YOu ain't seen nothing yet. They said similar things about General MacArthur, too ...

    By Anonymous H, at 05 July, 2009 22:40

  • "Hillary quit the senate to become secretary of state, and would have quit to become president, and so did 0bama. So, it's ok for Hillary and Barack, but not for Sarah? Double standards from the lefties once again."

I think your brain took a day off when you posted this comment. BHO resigned once he was elected. And HRC resigned once BHO promoted her. What is Sarah's new job?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 05 July, 2009 22:40

  • OK, let me get this straight.

Not two minutes after Obama got into the Senate, he started running for president and collecting his paycheck, yet not doing his job.

That's OK??? Taking money and not doing anything for it vs. resigning and not relying on the taxpayer dime to survive -- the latter gets my respect any day.

But then again, the liberal motto is to live by OPM - Other People's Money. Freeloaders.

By Anonymous FightTheSmears, at 05 July, 2009 22:40

  • Don't forget the nut jobs who tried to burn down her church. If she had been in the lower 48, her security costs would have been through the roof.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 05 July, 2009 22:52

  • Did any of you pushing the "quitter" line actually hear her speech? The transcript doesn't do it justice. She is fired up and rarin' to go. I saw on another thread the thought that "revolutionaries just pick up power that's laying on the ground". Well, the tea parties and state sovereignty movement are the fastest growing, most committed groups there are. And Sarah is a perfect fit to assume leadership and let those groups coalesce around her. This is breaking the mold - no wonder all the pundit poobahs are flummoxed.

By Blogger Jack Okie, at 05 July, 2009 23:22

  • I love it when lefty lemmings surreptitiously claim they voted for McCain/Palin and are "disappointed" that she left office. She is obviously aligning herself to gain experience and exposure to what she needs, and to claim the White House after the dems attempt to rewrite the Constitution with a Socialist stroke.

There is no denying Sarah Palin is a polarizing figure, and you either love her or hate her (fear is a better word for most of her critics). Fundamentally, she is the polar opposite of what is going on in Washington right now, and that is what draws many to her.

I would rather drink my own urine than to believe that there are still cement heads out there that think people fall for this "splitting hairs" bologna, and that there can be one simple event that blurs the line between the Obama policies and what Palin stands for. Contrary to what Obama told the voters during his campaign, he is a big spending Liberal, just like McCain and Palin told us.

Please, allow me to identify you since you like to hide behind your blurred lines. You are either a lib that is scared to death of Palin, or a lib that has no idea what you believe in.

By Anonymous MH, at 05 July, 2009 23:53

  • To all of the liberals, and the so-called ex conservatives(liar), Sarah is damned if she does, and damned if she doesn't. You just want to pick on her no matter what she does, or what decisions she makes. If she stays in, she's damned, if she resigns, she is damned. FACT: Liberals have a warped sense of what is right and wrong. They are like stepford wives, they obey their master no matter what his reasoning is. They are a menace to society by way of their vote. They are hopeless, useless nuts.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 06 July, 2009 00:45

  • Free at last, free at last thank God Almighty, Sarah is free at last to "BE".

It will be interesting to watch her untamed. Now we can all prepare for a real show. Hahaha!

By Anonymous Manchester Square, at 06 July, 2009 02:03

  • You have got to get a picture of the new, much thinner Rush (G)

By Anonymous Dave, at 06 July, 2009 08:15

  • I listened to her press conference and I heard what she said...she is leaving to save Alaska from a part-time governor who is costing the state millions of dollars in frivolous ethics complaints. Apparently they aren't going to stop. It was a nobel thing to do. Why do we need to create a conspiracy theory.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 06 July, 2009 08:38

  • Where's John Galt?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 06 July, 2009 08:51

  • Love Limbaugh... He is the only voice of reason. Smart, fearless and most important - honest.
Palin is a trylly an American Woman. She is what America is all about. Smile Sarah... We are behind you 100% and there are so many of us that left clowns can't even count.
Forget about 2012, you have at least 5 elections before you and some day we will see you at WH. I do not hope, I am sure of it.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 06 July, 2009 09:51

  • No one knows yet ...

Each passing day I become more convinced that the state run media pundits, and lefties in general, are born brain dead.

By Blogger tarpon, at 06 July, 2009 10:07

  • 1st of all, it's her call...no one has any business telling her to stay or resign, she's not chained there.
Look at all the lifers in Congress and what a cesspool that place is, maybe more of them should resign instead.
2nd The double standard is sickening, if you're Conservative you can't resign, but the lefties are hailed as do-gooders quitting for the benefit of America going to run for another office, Bull Snot!
What ever Mrs. Palin does, she will do it extremely well....Personally I hope she runs in 2012 just to twist the lefties shorts into a wad!!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 06 July, 2009 11:15

  • I know it would be a tough slog to force Palin on the GOP but the alternatives are far bleaker.

I think we should all adopt an Iowan in the GOP and enforce an epiphany.

By Anonymous gary gulrud, at 06 July, 2009 11:18

  • She's being called a quitter. You have to think about what she qit.

She quit playing the Dem's game. She's off the grid, a free agent.

The very fact she announced on a Friday, on a holiday weekend, and it creates this much buzz translates to her being very much relevant and the Dem's worst nightmare.

By Anonymous Diego, at 06 July, 2009 11:32

  • Palin ia a show, not a leader

    she is a JACKASS

please 12%ers push her into running in 2012

90% of the nation giggles at the idea

she will end up on TV, which I would watch, she needs a TV show, she isa personality, not a leader

but wingnuts, if you think she is great push your insane party to run her again!!!!

Dems will be in power or centuries, win nugts killed the GOP

    thanks Brian!

    By Anonymous Palin=COMEDY, at 06 July, 2009 12:46

  • If she's that bad, then you should be delighted if she ran for President right?

I mean, if she's such a JOKE, such a RIDICULOUS CHOICE, then you wouldn't be on here pointing it out. You'd be telling all the "wingnuts" to get her nominated. Right?

    But you're not.

This is why politics is in such a state. The inability of the Democrats to deal with people honestly.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 06 July, 2009 22:58

  • To Gary Gilrud,

We GOP Iowans can make up our own minds. It is the Iowan Dumbocrats who need help in the voting booth voting multiple times, having to be told who to vote for, Needing to vote for the dead...

By Blogger PCD, at 08 July, 2009 10:14

  • Palin is the inevitable new answer to "formulaic' political amateurs who have not noticed that the formula has been obliterated by current office holder. She's quite simply:"What's Next".

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 09 July, 2009 20:48

  • I heard Rush is taking his monthly week off for August next week instead.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 10 July, 2009 16:22

  • It’s interesting to me to watch the ultra-conservatives carry on so about her not being finished. Reminds me of the scene with the Black Knight in Monty Python & the Holy Grail. Or almost as good, Kevin Bacon in Animal House screaming “All is well!” amidst the carnage.

It’s also interesting to hear their talk about the left practically crapping their pants in terror of her. What, exactly, do liberals have to fear? Here is a woman who, through nobody’s fault but her own has become the 21st century Dan Quayle, even appearing on Saturday Night Live in self-mockery. Funny, yes, but not politically astute. To quote Forrest’s mom, “Stupid is as stupid does…”

The public perception of her will remain “quitter”, unless she does something drastic to counter it. Americans really don’t like quitters, and historically haven't supported them.

Did the media mistreat her? Yes, but they’ve mistreated plenty of other politicians over the years and most have survived. Those who didn’t largely did themselves in, like the aforementioned Quayle – remember the Murphy Brown comments? – and Michael Dukakis’s response to the rape question.

If Palin wants to be taken seriously she should start acting the part, instead of doing her best to parody herself.
